Have you ever heard the story about that guy that got laid off from his day job only to find himself, shortly after, doing exactly what he always wanted? Yeap, that’s also the story of Mike McDowell and his mudpuppies.

Mike McDowell was a senior web designer and his hobby way clay modeling. Now, he is running his own show the way he wants it. “My work is continually evolving but I do follow a few self imposed guidelines; keep it simple, include my love of plants, and make pieces I would buy myself. In my spare time I am either sitting in the yard with my pup enjoying nature or scouring the web nurturing my soul with incredible art.”

He started designing these ceramic hanging air plant pods (Tillandsia) after discovering that tillandsias will not survive in standing and if water pools in their leaves it can harm them.

We found some of his works on Etsy, but also, more recently, on Fab. We like him and his works because they are literally upside down, as you can see for yourself.
